Training-cum-Demonstration on Scientific Maize Production Technology under Promoting Improved Technoogy of Maize Production in NEH Region-Arunachal Pradesh

23rd August, 2019, ICAR, Basar: ICAR Research Centre for NEH Region Arunachal Pradesh Centre, Basar organised Training-cum-Demonstration on Scientific Maize Production Technology under Promoting Improved Technology of Maize Production in NEH Region-Arunachal Pradesh on 23rd August, 2019 at Trainees’ hostel, Gori Farm, ICAR, Basar. The objective of the programme is to impart scientific maize production technology to farmers of Arunachal Pradesh and consecutively increase Maize Production. About 30 participants including officials of State Agriculture and Allied Department from Leparada, West Siang, officials from KVK, West Siang and progressive farmers participated in the programme.
The programme started with welcome speech from Dr. Rajesh A. Alone, Scientist (Agroforesty), ICAR, Basar. Then it was followed by speech from Dr. H. Kalita, Joint Director, AP, Centre Basar, Programme leader where he emphasized the economical importance of Maize in Arunachal Pradesh. He also added that value addition and post harvest management of maize or babycorn can be a good source of revenue generation for tribal farmers. Therefore, improvement of Maize cultivation through scientific approach is crucial in Arunachal Pradesh.
The programme was carried over by technical session. The topics in the session included various topic on insect pest management, soil fertility management and soil moisture conservation of maize cultivation in hilly ecosystem of Arunachal Pradesh viz. “Organic insect pest management” in Maize by Dr. H. kalita, “Soil fertility enhancement through liming and organic inputs” by Dr. Ampee Tasung, Scientist, Soil Science, ICAR, Basar and “Soil moisture conservation measures for Maize cultivation in hilly ecosystem of Arunachal Pradesh” by Mr. Jitendra Kumar, Scientist, Soil Science, ICAR, Basar. Later, the session was open for discussion. Progressive farmers and officials from state department of Agriculture and Allied Departments from Govt, of Arunachal Pradesh and KVK, West Siang actively interacted with the resource persons regarding the feasibility of organic management practices of insect pest in maize, liming benefits, management of erratic soil moisture stress, post harvest management of maize, etc. At the end, participants were guided to the ICAR Gori Farm for visiting the demonstration plot.
The programme was appreciated by the participants and they suggested that more informative and encouraging programme should be conducted. Finally, the programme successfully came to an end with vote of thanks from Dr.Ampee Tasung.
